Acer 521TEV BIOS UPDATE
Hi,
Please can anyone help with a problem I have regarding updating the BIOS of my ACER 521TEV laptop?
I have tried to upgrade the processor from a Pentium 3 650mhz SL443 to a pentium 3 1ghz sl53s processor. After installing this and booting an error appears that tells me that there was an error: "CPU BIOS Code Update Mismatch".
Having searched for this error on the acer website I came accross a page which suggests that I needed to update the BIOS so that the system could identify the new cpu. Having updated the bios and rebooting I received the same error message.
The acer site then suggests that I try updating the "Stepping" separately using a program called "Chekup6.exe" and file per_p_10.pdb. I have tried this however this has not rectified the problem as I have to reinstall the old processor in order to boot the system then I get an error message stating that "No microcode updates for your main processor were found in the database file."
After some more searching on the net I found the following http://www1.ezbbs.net/cgi/bbs?id=the......p;dd=20&p=4 which suggests that I try using the checkup6.exe or checkup5.exe with files pep.dat and pep2.dat found on site http://www.cathedrallabs.org/~aris/acer/stepping/ however I get the same result as before. This website then suggests that the ACER BIOS file 66ltd0.bin needs to be manually updated using a binary editor with information coppied from the file "per_p_10.pdb" however I cannot find the file 66ltd0.bin on my laptop to update it.
I realise that there could be the possibility that this new processor just doesnt work with the motherboard however if anyone has any suggestions that may help I would be more than grateful.

I have an old Acer Power SE computer which I just upgraded to a new
CPU (800 Mhz P3). Now whenever I boot I get the errors "CPU BIOS
UPDATE CODE MISMATCH" and "Equipment Configuration Error."
According to the Acer "Stepping Code Update" page:
"Start the system without drivers (DOS boot diskette) and run the BU
code update program. The program will display the stepping data and ID
for your CPU (value in brackets).
Identify the source code file that contains the correct, matching
steppings and values for your CPU (the attached pdb file contains most
stepping codes)
Run the program Chekup6.exe with the parameter call to the correct
source file as shown in the following example:
eg. For Example : checkup6 -p per_p_10.pdb
After the update, and a full re-start of your system, all settings
will be correct and the error message will no longer be shown. "
However, whenever I run either the "update" program or the "checkup6"
program, they just hang.
When I run "update /f per_p_10.pdb", I get the following:
"Search Computer Processor
CPUID = 686h
Search BIOS Micro Code Block:
3 found
Update BIOS Micro Code:
CPU = 686h ==>"
Ennél a résznél ezt a hibát kapom :
Update Function Error, Update microcode fail.9700
