Sziasztok!
A közeljövőben tervezünk venni a cégnél egy szervert. A tárgyban szereplő gépet néztem ki. Samba PDC lesz, HW RAID 5-öt tervezek alá. Kérdésem a következő lenne: Érdemes-e foglalkozni az integrált Smart Array E200i vezérlővel és SAS diszkekkel, vagy inkább áldozzunk egy komolyabb vezérlőre és SCSI lemezekre?
Esetleg vannak-e egyéb tudnivalók ezzel a tipussal kapcsolatban?
Szeretném körbejárni a témát mielőtt rendelek..

Pont ma néztem meg egy ML 350-et ma futólag (mert utána Windows szervert telepítettem rá :). Beledobtam egy Ubuntu 6.10 CD-t, bebootoltam, egyből felismerte a vezérlőt, látta a SAS diszkeket. Úgy tűnik, hogy SCSI helyett a SAS a következő széles körben elterjedő szabvány. A disztribútorokkal beszélgetve nem biztos, hogy megéri már hagyományos SCSI-ba pénzt tenni. A Serial Attached SCSI az irány, én azt vennék. Élesben használunk a cégnél SAS vinyós gépet már lassan egy éve. A megbízhatósággal nincs probléma. Fileműveleti teszteket nem végeztem rajta.

Ha nem haragszotok meg nagyon... Elmondjátok 2 mondatban, hogy mi az a Serial Attached SCSI? Otthon vagyok a SCSI, SATA, HW RAID, Hot swap problematikájában, de SAS-t még nem láttam. Mi a helyzet a SATA kompatibilitással? Ugyanaz a csatlakozójuk?

inkabb SATA ra hasonlit, mint a SCSI-re, a lenyege, hogy aszinkron (mig a sata szinkron), es a fo kulonbseg a skalazodas, >8 diszk korul mar a scsi sehova nem skalazodik (buszsebesseg is bejatszik nyilvan), ez meg mehet a csillagos egekig :)

de semmikepp sem SCSI, arban a SAS ugyanott van, es a dizajnbol adodoan
jobban skalazodik sok diszkre.
hacsak nem azt tervezitek, hogy kulso tarolokban lesznek a diszkek, mert akkor szopo.. jelenleg a HPnek nincs kulso SAS diszkek fogadasara alkalmas doboza (jo, van, de az csak a kicsi SASt tudja, a 15krpm -est mar nem...)

A SAS lemezből 2.5 vagy 3.5 -ös a javasolt? Az integrált vezérlőt melyik driver hajtja? Nem akarok ágyúval verébre lőni, de körültekintően választanék.. Érdemes-e az alaplapit, vagy toljak bele még pénzt. Ha igen melyiket ajánljátok? Nincs szó külső tárolókról meg egyéb extráról, egyszerű belső diszkek (hotswap?) lennének, RAID-5-ben , meg esetleg egy RAID-1 a backupnak plusz egy tartalék lemez.

Gondolom BBWC akart lenni.. Ha jól tudom, lehet az integrált vezérlőt (e200) is memoval, meg elemmel bővíteni, csak igy tudja a RAID5-öt.

Van benne 4 (vagy 5) belso diszkhely, oda akarmilyen (3.5-es) diszket tehetsz, de ha jol emlekszem nem HP diszk eseten veszik a controller garanciaja. A hotswap baynel (6 vagy 8 diszk, attol fuggoen hogy SFF vagy LFF) viszont erdemes tudni, hogy a nem HP diszkeket csak reszelovel tudod betenni. Mi SATA diszkekkel hasznaljuk (SW RAID), cciss driverrel, eddig nem volt vele baj (~3 honap). (hotswappel nem probalkoztam)

PS: Igaza van a kolleganak lentebb, az integralt vezerlohoz is kell a 128 megas BBWC upgrade, hogy tudja a RAID5-ot.

Alapvetoen igen. Kb. 5 honapja megy, es eddig csak az egyik tappal volt gond, de azt jelezte az iLO, aztan elkuldtuk garancialis cserere. 3.5-es SATA lemezekkel megy, itt volt ami nem tetszett, mert nem HP diszkeket vettunk, es vegul csak reszelovel tudtunk hozza diszkkeretet csinalni.
