Melyik kernel új hardverhez?

Sziasztok!

Meg tudná valaki mondani, hogy melyik kernellel lehet a legoptimálisabban kihasználni a következõ konfigurációt:

Pentium 4 D945 3.4 GHz (dual core és ha jól tudom, 64 bit)
1 GB DDR2
160 GB SATA
MSI NVidia 7300 GS 256 MB

Szerintem nem kell ezen sokat agyalni!
Új hardwer -> új kernel. A 2.6.xx, ami alapból benne van egy ujabb kiadású disztróban.

PS: Az optimális az ami a több szempont figyelembevételével a legjobb! Annál nem lehet "optimálisabb", főleg nem "legoptimálisabb"!

Természetesen bastya elvtars valaszahoz hasonlóra gondoltam, dejo-ét magamtól is ki tudtam találni. Köszi!

Viszont egy valamire való telepítő azt magától felismeri, hogy smp kernelt kell-e telepíteni.
A 64 bithez, meg annyit tennék még hozzá, hogy ha a 64 bites Linux mellett döntenél, akkor sokkal kisebb bináris programkészletből válogathatsz és a zárt kódú driverekkel is lehetnek problémáid.
Mérlegelni kell, hogy a némi sebesség növekedés megéri-e.

Debian etch nightly build netinstall sima 686-os kernel rakott fel, de 1 órája cseréltem 686-smp-re. 64 bittel és sem szándékozom foglalkozni az általad mondottak miatt. Igazából az érdekelt volna, hogy a sima és az smp kernel között mekkora a sebességkülönbség, erről van-e valakinek tapasztalata. Üdv!

Hát ha ez kétmagos proci, akkor elvben csak az egyik magot hajtja ez meg, de igazából dunsztom nincs, én most egy kétprocis géppel szenvedek, és nem Linux van rajta (DFBSD).
