Lockheed Martin Selects Concurrent's RedHawk Linux Software for Next Generation Aegis Weapon System

Concurrent (NASDAQ: CCUR), a leading provider of time-critical Linux operating systems for mission-critical applications, today announced that Lockheed Martin has selected Concurrent's RedHawk Linux operating system and NightStar development tools for the Navy's Cruiser Modernization COTS Refresh 2 program.

The modernization program will leverage the Aegis Open Architecture (AOA) computer programs to refresh the Aegis Weapon Systems on seven Aegis-equipped cruisers. Újabb 4 linuxos szupercomputer az amerikai hadseregnek

A U.S. Army supercomputing center with a legacy that dates to the first large computer, the Electronic Numerical Integrator and Computer (ENIAC) launched in 1946, is moving to Linux-based clusters in a major hardware purchase that will more than double its computing capability.

The Army Research Laboratory Major Shared Resource Center (MSRC)is buying four Linux Networx Inc. Advanced Technology Clusters, including a system with 4,488 processing cores, or 1,122 nodes, with each node made up of two dual-core Intel Xeon chips. A second system has 842 nodes.

A GPLv3-nak jobban kell a Linux, mint a Linuxnak a GPLv3?

If you're looking for clear-cut heroes and villains in the raging debate about Linux and GPL version 3.0, don't read on. Things get really messy from here on in.

Linux will get along just fine without GPL version 3.0, say many readers, and there's a strong push back pretty strongly against the idea that rejecting GPL 3.0 is any kind of 'sell out'. In fact this document is loaded with legal barbs to repel all kinds of grievances.

IBM: "Linux Client Migration Cookbook"

IBM's Redbooks publication arm has published a freely downloadable 260-page book on migrating to the Linux desktop. Linux Client Migration Cookbook: A Practical Planning and Implementation Guide for Migrating to Desktop Linux aims to provide a technical planning reference for organizations that are considering a migration to Linux-based personal computers, the Redbook website says.

The book is available in hard-copy, PDF, and HTML formats and provides information not tied specifically to IBM hardware or software products. For example, in Appendix A, "Using Enterprise Management Tools," analysis is provided of the management tools provided by two enterprise Linux distribution competitors: Red Hat (Satellite Server 3.4.0) and Novell (ZENworks 6.5 Linux Management).

Although the cookbook includes some technical how-to's for Linux developers, the overall focus is to walk the reader through some of the important considerations and planning issues IT managers will encounter during a migration project, the publisher said.

Within the context of a pre-existing Microsoft Windows-based environment, the authors attempt to present a holistic, end-to-end view of the technical challenges and methods necessary to complete a successful migration to Linux-based clients, the site said.

Section topics include:

  • Choosing Linux
  • Planning the pilot migration
  • Performing the pilot migration
  • Using enterprise management tools
  • Application porting
  • Desktop automation and scripting
  • Client personalization

The book is authored by Chris Almond, Art Cannon, Jeroen van Hoof, Sekhar Vaddadi, Christian Patsch, Oliver Mark, and Tom Schwaller.

Another Redbook publication, focused on migrating to Linux from Solaris and published just last week, is available here.

OpenAJAX az Eclipseben

The Eclipse Foundation has granted initial approval to incorporate a new AJAX Toolkit Framework into its Web Tools Platform (WTP) project. The framework includes a

effort, has launched the OpenAJAX initiative in hopes of attracting coding participation from outside IBM.
