Clement "Clem" Lefebvre, a Linux Mint disztribúció és a Cinnamon desktop környezet vezető fejlesztője csapata nevében tegnapelőtt bejelentette a Cinnamon 3.4-es kiadását. Újdonságok:

• Support for mozjs38 (CJS 3.4 uses mozjs38, CJS 3.2 uses mozjs24, Cinnamon 3.4 is compatible with either CJS 3.4 or CJS 3.2)
• Support for additional Wacom devices (in particular, devices with no erasers or with only one button)
• Multi-process Settings Daemon (each plugin now runs in its own separate process)
• Cleaner session EXIT phase (this phase used to timeout after 1 seconds, it is now immediate)
• Desktop grid
• Separate processes for Nemo and the desktop handling
• Simpler date formats for last-modified column in list-view
• Wildcard support in file searches
• Desktop actions in panel launcher
• Ala Firefox support for middle-click and Ctrl key in Nemo navigation buttons to open new tabs
• Theming engine improvements for systray and margins
• Additional configuration options for the screensaver
• New list widget for spices settings
• More information shown in spices about dialogs
• Support for lightdm-settings and manage-systemd-units in System Settings
• File manager (inode/directory MIME handler) selection in Favorite Applications
• Better support for the configuration of mice acceleration and sensitivity

Mark Shuttleworth múlt heti bejelentése nyomán, Unity 8 fork indult el Yunit néven. A fejlesztését közösségi alapon tervezik folytatni.

Megjelent az Awesome Window Manager Framework 4.1-es kiadása. Az újdonságokról itt lehet olvasni.

Hat hónapnyi fejlesztés után megjelent a Mate Desktop környezet soron következő, 1.18.0-s kiadása. A kiadásban a fejlesztők egyrészt a GTK3+ migráció befejezésére, illetve olyan régi, elavult komponensek leváltására fókuszáltak, amelyek meglététől még függ a Mate Desktop 1.16. A Windows Maker fejlesztői több mint másfél évvel a 0.95.7-es kiadás után bejelentették, hogy elérhető a 0.95.8-as kiadása. Az újdonságokról részletesen a NEWS fájlból lehet tájékozódni.

Megjelent a Lumina Desktop Environment 1.2.0-s kiadása. Benne néhány új plugin, új segédprogram stb. Főbb változások:

• Dismantle the Lumina library (libLuminaUtils.so) completely – no longer needed/installed
• Disable the internal Lumina Theme engine from all utilities. Now it is only used by the desktop itself while all applications will use the global Qt5 theme engine.
• New Panel Plugins:
  • “audioplayer” (panel version of the desktop plugin with the same name): Allows the user to load/play audio files directly through the desktop itself.
  • “jsonmenu” (panel version of the menu plugin with the same name): Allows an external utility/script to be used to generate a menu/contents on demand.
• New Menu Plugins:
  • “lockdesktop”: Menu option for instantly locking the desktop session.
• New Utilities:
  • `lumina-archiver`: This is a pure Qt5 front-end to the “tar” utility for managing/creating archives. This can also use the `dd` utility to burn a “*.img” file to a USB device for booting.
