vSphere Web Client 5.1 - vSphere Data Protection

A vSphere 5.1 Web Client-je egész pofás lett. Teljesen jól működik Linux alól is összes funkció, amit eddig próbáltam. A VI Client után még szokni kell, de nincs nagyon választási lehetőség. Ugyan a vSphere 5.1-hez van VI Client, azonban egyes funkciók onnan már nem érhetők el. Pl. a VDP sem.

A vSphere Data Protection appliance egy Linux

A vSphere Data Protection (VDP) appliance - ami a VMware Data Recovery-t (VDR) váltja a vSphere 5.1-ben - szintén egy Linux appliance. A VDR is az volt (CentOS). A VDP ezzel szemben SUSE Linux Enterprise 11.

Ha valóban SUSE Linux Enterprise 11, akkor a VMwarenek fizetnie kell licenc díjat a Novell számára, nem?

Gondolom ki is fizeti. Ez egy fizetős vállalati termék, ami csak nagyobb - pl. vSphere 4 Enterprise Plus - csomagokban érhető el. Áttételesen az EMC-n, mert a VDP az EMC Avamar technológiájára épül. Persze az EMC meg VMware cég, szóval csak az a kérdés, hogy melyik zsbből fizetik.

Lehet olyan árat kaptak, amiért nem vacakolnak vele és kifizetik a licencet, csak a CentOS után esetleg az is felmerült bennem, hogy valójában nem SLES, hanem openSUSE, vagy saját maguk által fordított verzió SLES forráskódokból és csak SLES-nek van beállítva a VMware GuestOS azonosító.

Majd akkor szóljanak, ha lesz olyan vCenter appliance, amihez nem kell alápakolni egy Windows Server 2008 + MSSQL kombót.
