Job description:

Working in a team of 6 covering shift hours and supporting Unix (HPUX) & MPE servers and infrastructure. Routine operational jobs – printing and tape management etc as well as administration of Unix & MPE servers and the XP512 San environment. Each member will be required to learn how to manage the dispatch printing on the HP3000 (MPE platform) and contact with staff collecting dispatch documentation etc. Those who can do the job and then come up with practical solutions for doing it better, within the constraints of an operational environment, will thrive.

Training will be provided in specialist areas, from within the team (XP512, Omniback, MC ServiceGuard, Maestro, OpenView, Tivoli) and in furthering Unix skills, but we are more likely to appoint someone who can come in and add value straight away.

 To be part of a team operating, and trouble shooting on, HP3000, HP9000, HP Netserver computers, and system peripherals.
 To carry out, and ensure that procedure documentation and validation activities are carried out.
 To provide operational support service to SAP, BAAN and Oracle application teams.
 To carry out implementation projects in the operational environment.
 To work as part of a small team which involves a full range of operational duties from technical UNIX to routine printing and tape management.
 Provide technical and operational input to IM meetings.
 Participate in global infrastructure projects deployments.
 They will be responsible for resolving all issues at HW and OS level on our Unix based server park, and operate our support tools like Sitescope, Bladelogic and SunMC. He will lead projects on server support activities (tool deployments, tool upgrades).

Technical Skills:

Need to have:

 Technical expertise in HP-UX 11i and 11 required
 Experience of working in an operations environment with the commitment to strict change control, proceduralised ways of working, security discipline and emphasis on availability of service.
 Knowledge of HP 9000 hardware, San and peripherals.
 XP512 software, OmniBack/Data Protector, mass storage environment; HP MC ServiceGuard., Maestro, Open View and Tivoli.
 Technical expertise in Solaris OS (version 7, 8, 9, 10)
 Solaris volume manager
 Sun Entry level server hw knowledge (280R, 240, 440, 880)
 Sun Enterprise HW knowledge (10K, 15K, 25K)
 Sun cluster, Veritas cluster experience, SUN Management Center
 Veritas File system and Volume Manager
 A knowledge of networking – Ethernet, TCP/IP
 Site scope

Nice to have:

 HP3000/MPE iX experience. Wintel experience.
 Assyst Change Control System
