Our multinational client is a leading provider of financial consultancy service.

Position description
Responsibilities:

- UNIX and Storage support for all Unix infrastructure in Europe.
- Maintaining the stability of the 4000 UNIX servers and the Storage Area Networks.
- Working with engineering groups to package products/utilities for L1 groups.
- Supporting APG with technical issues on Linux/Solaris at the operating system level.
- 2nd level escalation of Unix/storage issues on the Linux/Solaris platform.
- Daily interaction with internal clients and customers - Mainly Application support groups.
- Daily/weekly interaction with global Unix support and engineering groups.
- Weekly interaction with Vendors and suppliers.
- Mainly technology forums and product updates.
- Job function is approx 75% support and 25% project/dev work.
- Each team member maintains their own list of projects (topics such as O/S upgrades, testing of products/scripts, writing/maintaining tools or working with the enterprise projects team on large scale projects).
- 0ncall is on a rota basis and is currently one week in seven.
- Due to UNIX being one of the primary infrastructure groups, weekend work etc is required (again, normally handled via a rota with time in leiu etc).

- Hitachi Disk array's
- Dell & Sun Hardware
- Brocade switches
- Veritas product suite including VXfs filesystem, Vxvm disk mirroring and Netbackup backup suite

Requirements:

- VCS VxVM Experience of Solaris and Linux (Red-hat)
- Programming level knowledge of at least Korn Shell
- Strong interest in technology with an enthusiasm to learn & apply new skills
- Role requires interaction with a lot of groups - Not all with a strong technical background
- An ability to discuss complex technical issues clearly is essential
