Senior Systems Engineer
The Website Hosting team operates highly available, scalable, fast, and efficient websites for multiple tenants, including Amazon's own retail sites, and Target.com.

To help drive operational costs to the floor, we are actively recruiting qualified Systems Engineers to operate our existing fleets, analyze and tune hardware/software configurations, automate existing manual processes, and identify improvements to our existing tools. This exciting and high impact role will involve working with a wide range of other technical and business groups within Amazon.

Job Qualifications:

• Several years experience with performance analysis, systems software, and systems architecture
• Ability to operate in high pressure environment and successfully handle multiple priorities
• In depth knowledge & experience of Linux and Apache.
• Excellent communication, prioritization and analytical skills
• Excellent knowledge of server hardware and software troubleshooting.
• Knowledge of system performance methodologies along with hands on empirical monitoring
• Experience deploying or managing large scale distributed Linux environments.
• Proficiency in scripting/programming with Perl (essential) and C, C++, Java, CGI
• Internet and operating system security fundamentals
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking, architecture and core technologies (DNS, LDAP, NFS, FTP, etc.)
• Strong desire to build; sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
• Candidates must have strong computer science credentials and should be passionate about Internet technology

Software Developer Engineer

As a Developer Support Engineer, you will represent Amazon and AWS as you manage technical inquiries from customers that want help using our services. You will also work directly with Amazon Web Service engineers to ensure that customer issues are resolved as expediently as possible. In addition, your responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

• Writing code samples, tutorials, and technical articles for the developer community
• Working with customers to understand how they are using our services, and providing feedback to development teams
• Driving customer communication during AWS critical events
• Driving projects that improve support-related processes and our customer’s technical support experience

Job Qualifications
Some experience with the following technologies:
• Web services (SOAP, REST, WSDL, XML)
• Systems administration (Linux and/or Windows)
• Networking (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL, DHCP, Load Balancing)
• Programming / scripting (Java, Perl, Ruby, C#, and/or PHP)

Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong customer focus, the ability to juggle many tasks and projects in a fast-moving environment, and must be a self starter who is excited about technology. A degree in computer science, or equivalent experience, is required. Candidates with experience working directly with customers, and with flexible work schedules are preferred. Fluency in English is required.

* Substantial background in large scale datacenter network design.
* Deep knowledge of network hardware and packet forwarding architectures.
* Excellent analytical skills.
* Significant past experience with, and deep expertise in many of the following: Ethernet, 802.2/3, 802.1d, IP, TCP, BGP, OSPF, HSRP/VRRP/GLBP, PIM, IGMP, MSDP, MPLS, LDP, DNS, HTTP, SSL, netflow, 10G, 40/100G Futures, Linux/Unix.
* Software development/programming/scripting skills are highly desired.
