Job Title: WebSphere Application Server Midrange SpecialistDuration: From 01/06/2009 to 31/12/2010 (after this date extension should be reconsidered)

Location: Amstelveen

Scope: The scope of the labor is WebSphere Application Server on AIX & HPUX and WebSphere User Security (WUS) for a Bank account in the Netherlands.

Role:

The WebSphere Application Server Midrange Specialist takes care of operational continuance of WebSphere AS Intranet & Internet instances in the UT, ST, ET and PR environments of the ABN AMRO account.

The specialist is responsible for support of our incident handling team in South Africa and the handling of level 3 incidents and problems.

Besides this the supporter carries out reviews of Work orders with potential influence on the operational continuance of the WebSphere infrastructure. The guardian role which IBM has is an important aspect of the supported because of the expected (end-to-end) knowledge of the internet banking application from an infrastructural point of view.

The supporter takes care of all aspects regarding incident- and problem solving and support of changes in the WebSphere environment.

Regularly the specialist has to work, in a project team, on new installations, software refreshments, extensions on existing WebSphere instances, migrations and modifications

Skills:

The WebSphere Application Server Midrange Specialist:

- Needs to have high-level understanding and knowledge of technical components among which: z/OS, MQ, LDAP, Directory Server, networks, load balancing, configuration management, testing, databases (DB2/Oracle) and application security.

- Needs: in depth understanding and knowledge of WebSphere Application Server, Clustering techniques in a Network Deployment Environment the AIX platform.

- Has a good understanding of both English (and Dutch advantage).

- Has a good knowledge of application deployment on WebSphere AS environments

- Is cooperative with other teams and specialists in order to solve issues

- Feels high responsibility for the availability of the infrastructure.

- Has a good knowledge of ITIL principles

- Is able to propose improvements to both service and availability

Tasks:

WebSphere administration tasks.

- Manage configuration:

- Modify configuration files via Admin console and scripts

- Document system configuration

- Incident and change management

- Process issues from CIRATS (IBM Incident tracking system)

- Monitor progress and ensure timely completion of Incidents

- Process tickets and tasks from 'Smile' (ABN AMRO incident & change management system)

- Assist the SA team with 2nd-level incidents (concerning defined work tasks)

- Handle 3rd level incidents & problems

- Assist team with problem solving on higher level (education of team)

- Carry out changes of a heavier caliber

- Coordinate changes & large incidents

- Initiate (operational) Incident consultation meeting

- Document actions & changes

- Produce RCA documents (Root Cause Analysis)

- Conduct administrative tasks related to incident handling and change management

- Communicate with all parties concerned

- Participate in incident crisis meetings

- Propose improvements to assist solving the incident

- System housekeeping

- APAR management

- Configuration management

- Update CMDB (Camera & Midrange Portal)

- Verification CMDB content

- Deployment

- Deploy new and existing applications based on scripts

- Document activities and changed configuration

- Performance Monitoring WebSphere

- Monitor and reduce WebSphere logfiles to prevent file systems from overfilling

- Monitor Garbage Collection behavior (e.g. GCAnalyzer)

- Take actions to prevent outage

- Verify on daily basis the availability of critical WebSphere instances

- Verify on known & new errors

- Report findings

- Incident solving

- Analyze incident cause and solve incident within available timeframe

- Verify system health with available tools & commands

- Backup overfilled (log) files

- Restore of data upon request

- Providing developers with information upon request

- Analyze WebSphere logfiles

- Analyze Heapdumps / Coredumps

- Scripting

- Maintenance of existing (deployment) tools, applications and scripts

- Creation and extending our tool base, written in Jython, JACL, Shell-script, Jave, XML,

- Factory activities

- Generate complete WebSphere systems (for projects) with build scripts

- Remove complete WebSphere systems (according to work instructions)

- Create and maintain operational support procedures

- Review and accept (according to our Non Functional requirements checklist) of new of modified systems

- Responsibility

- Take all necessary actions to be sure that the service satisfies the SLA’s with ABN AMRO

- All operational rules and policies have to be followed

Experience:

- At least 4 years experience in support of middleware (WebSphere Application Server) environments for clustered applications.

- Preferably knowledge of the infrastructure and processes of the AAB account.

Competency Requirements:

Strong AIX, HP-UX, SUN Solaris and Websphere application server knowledge.
