Boxes containing hundreds of votes landed in the street after toppling from a moving truck in Florida, election department officials said.
An employee in Florida’s largest county, Miami-Dade, forgot to lock the back of their truck, causing containers holding ballots to fall out, the local elections department said.
Dashcam footage of the incident shared on social media shows a car coming to a halt after spotting a blue box on the ground in the middle of the left-hand lane of a dual carriageway on Monday evening.
A figure can then be seen retrieving the blue box and a blue bag and returning to the car.
A video taken inside the vehicle shows the box is labelled with county barcodes and has “official election materials Miami-Dade” written on the side, while the satchel is marked “early voting”.
A further video shows a man returning the containers to the Miami-Dade Police Department before a woman can be heard thanking the good Samaritan for his “community service”.
