There are barely enough staff to run Manchester's pubs and restaurants, and wages are surging as hospitality recruitment turns into a 'battleground'

Manchester restaurant and pub owners have been scrambling to find enough hospitality staff to work in kitchens and behind bars, with recruitment in the sector described as a 'battleground'.

So difficult has it been to find employees, there have even been instances of business owners trying to poach staff from neighbouring businesses, using hugely inflated salaries as bait (a szerk: "The fight for talent is getting nasty. An operator has walked into one of our GMs ON DUTY during their first month in post and offered them 20k more than their current salary. Prepare for battle everyone").

It's a problem that 'no one saw coming' (a szerk: senki? :)), industry experts say, and is a complete 180-degree turn from last year where redundancies landed thick and fast and people were struggling to find work.

Speaking of the current climate, she said: "We're seeing counter-offers of anywhere between 10 and 30 per cent of salary - employers are trying to keep their people, and realistically the industry isn't in a position to do that, but it's too difficult to find key people.

"The number of job hunters is very low. We would usually have between 100 and 150 applications on a decent role, and they're less than 10 currently.

Ahogy itt írtam:

"Mivel otthon arról cikkeznek, hogy a járvány hatására sok vendéglátós hagyta ott a pályát, így ott is keresleti piac alakulhat ki a megfelelő munkaerő megtalálására és megtartására, így például ők is jobb helyzetben lehetnek egy kicsivel bátrabb bértárgyalással."

Vagyis ahogy feljebb említettem:

"Érdemes otthon is nyitva tartani a szemeket, frissen a CV-ket, mert ha a vakcináció előrehaladtával hasonló trendek alakulnak ki otthon is, akkor elég jó alkupozícióban lehetnek az alkalmazottak"
