Bár korábban úgy tűnt, hogy a Gimp 2.0 pre2 után már nem lesz szükség több pre kiadásra, Dave Neary február 4-én bejelentette a GIMP legújabb, 2.0 pre3 változatát.A legutóbbi kiadás óta csomó bugot eltávolítottak, de még további bugok várnak javításra, s biztosak benne, h számos hibát még nem találtak meg. Neary egy kérdésre válaszolva hozzátette, hogy ha minden jól megy, akkor a végleges 2.0.0 még február vége előtt megjelenhet. (Frissítette a roadmapet is, mely szerint február 18-án jön egy pre4 vagy rc1, majd 25-én a végleges 2.0.0 verzió.)
