convert SWF files to HTML5

Today we’re making the first version of Swiffy available on Google Labs. You can upload a SWF file, and Swiffy will produce an HTML5 version which will run in modern browsers with a high level of SVG support such as Chrome and Safari. It’s still an early version, so it won’t convert all Flash content, but it already works well on ads and animations. We have some examples of converted SWF files if you want to see it in action.

Swiffy uses a compact JSON representation of the animation, which is rendered using SVG and a bit of HTML5 and CSS3. ActionScript 2.0 is also present in the JSON object, and is interpreted in JavaScript in the browser. This representation makes the Swiffy animations almost as compact as the original SWF files.

nem gondoltam volna, hogy penzugyileg ennyire szarrá veerte az Apple a M$-t

If you’re guilty of skipping computer history class, here’s an exhaustingly lengthy Infographic from Manolution that can help you catch up. It sums up in detail the story behind the two biggest names in the industry: Microsoft and Apple, from their inception to today.

Apple will soon have enough cash to buy almost all their competitors

When Apple next announces their financial results, they should have close to $70 billion in the bank, which according to Asymco will be enough to buy all their manufacturing competitors with the exception of Samsung. That includes HTC, Nokia, RIM, LG, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson. (Google and Microsoft aren’t manufacturers, they’re platform vendors.)
The more remarkable thing is that as market values of phone vendors continue to decline, Apple’s cash will continue to grow dramatically. Indeed, a time may soon come when Apple’s cash will be worth more than the entire phone industry.
I’ll say it again — North Carolina isn’t a data center, it’s a money bin.

Android Runs 50% of New Smartphones

Android’s share of new smartphone purchases was double that for Apple Inc.’s iPhone, at 25 percent, the research firm said in a report today, based on a survey in March about devices bought during the previous half year. Research In Motion Ltd.’s BlackBerry had 15 percent, Nielsen said.

95% Data-Center Cooling Energy Reduction Thanks to Fluid-Submerged Servers

http://www.treehugger.com/files/2011/04/9-percent-data-center-cooling-e…
All kinds of industrial machines and processes are liquid-cooled, but strangely, most servers in large data-centers are still air-cooled. This doesn't make a lot of sense now that cooling costs are often as high, if not higher, than equipment costs. One of the companies working on changing that is Green Revolution Cooling. They use a non-conductive white mineral oil that holds 1,200 times more heat by volume than air to submerge servers, leading to a 95% reduction in energy used for cooling and 50% reduction in total energy use.

Swedish File-Sharers File For Religious Status

"A group of file-sharers in Sweden have requested that their religion, Kopimism, be officially recognized in Sweden. Although this status has been denied once in the past the struggle for religious freedom from persecution continues. Aside from deeming CTRL+C CTRL+V as sacred symbols other beliefs include the flow of information being ethically right and closed source software being 'akin to slavery.'"

1. kopimist
n. A "Kopimist" or "Kopimist intellectual" is person who has the philosophical belief that all information should be freely distributed and unrestricted. This philosophy opposes copyrights in all forms and encourages piracy of all types of media including music, movies, TV shows, and software. The term kopimist originates from the root word, kopimi, meaning copy me. - Wikipedia

Asia Runs Out of IPv4 Addresses

It seems that APNIC has just released the last block of IPv4 addresses and are now completely out, a lot faster then expected. Even though APNIC received 3 /8 blocks in February the high growth of mobile devices made the addresses run out even before the summer. 'From this day onwards, IPv6 is mandatory for building new Internet networks and services,' says APNIC Director General Paul Wilson.

1 billion core-hours of computational capacity for researchers

Google Exacycle for Visiting Faculty. Through this program, we’ll award up to 10 qualified researchers with at least 100 million core-hours each, for a total of 1 billion core-hours. The program is focused on large-scale, CPU-bound batch computations in research areas such as biomedicine, energy, finance, entertainment, and agriculture, amongst others. For example, projects developing large-scale genomic search and alignment, massively scaled Monte Carlo simulations, and sky survey image analysis could be an ideal fit.

játszhato Angry Birds torta

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hwVRzaQNkA

It's become a family tradition that I make increasingly ridiculous birthday cakes for my kids each year. So with my little boy Ben turning 6-years-old over the weekend, and appreciating his love of Angry Birds, I thought I'd have a shot a making him a playable Angry Birds birthday cake with working catapult and iced birds as ammunition.
