I've updated my port. See http://cubidou.nerim.net, and download the tarball at http://cubidou.nerim.net/NVIDIA_NetBSD-1.0-3203.tar.bz2 .

This time, I added support for GLX binaries, but note that it is not complete (some applications don't work, and that include all Linux binaries), and eventually leads to a crash. There's a bug that prevents AGP memory to be freed, so be prepared to fsck your disks often when using GLX binaries.

But also note that you can happily play gltron for several hours, without sound though :)

The included README file should be clear enough for an easy installation, you're welcome to report me any imprecision or difficulty, either by mail or in #netbsd on freenode. You can also ask me for a custom kernel in case you don't want to patch your source tree.

I'll now focus mainly on a LKM version (and I'll give a try to a 1.6.1 version).

Hello all,

I have completed a set of changes to the NetBSD build infrastructure that allow me to build at least two architectures (i386 and my ibmnws platform, a PowerPC box) under Cygwin/Windows XP.

I have made a patch for this, and provide instructions on the required configuration of Cygwin (including a small change needed to the Cygwin CVS implementation to avoid case-insensitivity filename clash problems) on my web

I will also file a change request problem report, with the patch pasted into it, so that this information is recorded somewhere.

The speed of the build, at least on my XP box, is not great, but it does work. I have managed to build everything all the way through to generating a RAM disk root file system based kernel for the ibmnws box, and that boots successfully.

Any comments, questions, or problems using these changes please let me know. I will try my best to help out with any fixes - I've probably seen most of the errors that are likely to crop up now ;-)

It's, as before, a bootable ISO image. It contains some important fixes (see below). See also the README in that directory.

Fixes:

* A problem that would cause installations not to boot (hang or reset early in the bootstage) has been fixed.

* The problem that caused glxgears to crash the X server has

been fixed. It was a signal delivery problem.

* Everything is now compiled with -O2, making things quite a bit faster.

* gdb (5.3) is now included. It works okay for userland debugging, examining kernel dumps is not yet possible.

* Issues with PCI DMA systems with more than 4G of memory should be fixed.

Matthew Garrett sikeresen épített fel egy Debian rendszert Sparc architektúrán, a NetBSD kernelt felhasználva. Ezzel egyidőben Joel Baker jelentése arról számol be, hogy több komolynak mondható eredményt értek el a Debian részek NetBSD/x86 alá való portolásában. Így sikeresen fordítottak dpkg-t és APT-ot, amelyek minden további patch hozzáadása nélkül lefordultak. Hogy mi ennek az egésznek a célja?A NetBSD köztudottan sok platformon fut. Ezek nagy részén a Linux kernel nem él meg. Ha a projekt sikeres lesz, a Debian felhasználók egy rakás platformon élvezhetik a Debian erejét, ötvözve a NetBSD kernel előnyeivel. Szerintem egy kickass kombináció lenne.

Igaz, hogy a hét közepén azt írtuk, hogy megjelent a NetBSD 1.6.1, de a hivatalos megjelenés csak most jött el. A NetBSD 1.6.1 az 1.6 karbantartási kiadása, amely számos biztonsági javítást, teéjesítménybeli javítást, javított eszközmeghajtó támogatás néhány meglevő eszközmeghajtóhoz, néhány új eszközmeghajtót, és néhány userland javítást tartalmaz. A NetBSD 1.6.1 elérhető a mirrorokon.

Wasabi Systems has contributed a driver for the LSI Fusion-MPT family of SCSI and Fibre Channel controllers. The driver ("mpt") supports the following devices:

* LSI 53c1030 Ultra320 SCSI

* LSI FC909, FC919, and FC929 Fibre Channel

The driver was ported from the FreeBSD "mpt" driver, written by Greg Ansley. Thanks also to Frank van der Linden for helping me test the driver, and for finding a few bugs for me.

A NetBSD leghíresebb jellemzője a nagyfokú portolhatósát. Egyes reklámok szerint a NetBSD fut minden elektromos eszközön amiben valamilyen használható processzor van, kivéve a kenyérpirítót (de már ezen is dolgoznak ;-)). A Linux is számos platformon képes működni, de ha arról van szó, hogy valamilyen extra környezetben kell bizonyítani, ott bizony a NetBSD magasan veri a Pingvint.
