DLink DI-524 and Motorola SB4200 Woes

I live in a house with two other individuals, one who is a casual Internet user and uses a wireless connection for the laptop, and the other and myself who are frequent Internet users and have Cat-5 Cables connected directly to the router. Our router is a DI-524, since we have to maintain wireless connectivity for the laptop user. We have a Motorola SB-4200 Modem, which has been discontinued by Motorola, which is provided by Comcast.

The issue that we are facing has been going on for some time, but seems to have reached epic proportions as of late. Ever since I moved in, I have experienced disconnect issues when using Bit torrent clients, and also possibly with Peer-to-Peer programs, such as Limewire, although I have been able to confirm for certain that Limewire can cause the disconnect. Essentially, Bittorrent, (I first used Azureus and then switched to the latest Bittorrent client to see if it would change anything,) will run normally anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour or two, and then spontaneously I will be disconnected from the Internet. The only way that I have found to resolve this issue is to turn off the client, and completely reset the cable modem. Resetting the router has no effect, and once the issue has manifested, it is impossible for the router to regain the DHCP configuration from the modem until the modem has been reset.
