"The loosely defined goal of this project is to create an OpenSolaris port that runs on PowerPC hardware. Which hardware exactly is still up for debate, but it will likely include some gear from Apple, and possibly from IBM as well as the Pegasos workstation from Genesi.

Design

The one firm (and fairly uncontroversial) design decision we've felt comfortable making is that the port should be big-endian. Initially we'll begin with a 32-bit port since that hardware is the easiest to come by; then we'll proceed with a 64-bit port for more recent chips. The rest is still under and up for discussion."

I joined the OpenSolaris Pilot on day one. Right now my primary interest in OpenSolaris is making a PowerPC port a reality. Also around mid-May 2005 I talked my employer into making OpenSolaris activity part of my day job.
