In the beginning, Android did not really have a graphics stack. It was just pushing frames directly to framebuffers and hoping for the best, the approach worked for quite some time. [...] About 6 years ago the Android team conducted a lot of research and quickly realized that the mainline kernel was far from being up to the job [...] The mainline graphics stack had a number of problems and the API was outdated and not keeping pace with the industry. The mainline graphics community knew it was time for an upgrade! [...] The dream finally came true in 2018 with the release of the Google Pixel 3, the first Android phone running with the mainline graphics stack. A feat that was deemed impossible 10 years ago is now a reality thanks to a lot of hard work from the entire community.

Egy, a The Verge birtokába jutott bizalmas szerződés szerint a Google minimum 2 év biztonsági frissítés-támogatást tett kötelezővé az Android eszközöket szállító gyártók számára:

confidential contracts obtained by The Verge show many manufacturers now have explicit obligations about keeping their phones updated written into their contract with Google [...] A contract obtained by The Verge requires Android device makers to regularly install updates for any popular phone or tablet for at least two years. Google’s contract with Android partners stipulates that they must provide “at least four security updates” within one year of the phone’s launch. Security updates are mandated within the second year as well, though without a specified minimum number of releases.

A Xiaomi azzal borzolja a felhasználói kedélyeit, hogy reklámokat (vagy ahogy ő nevezi: javaslatokat) mutat az operációs rendszer különböző területein, beleértve a beállítások részt is.
