So we have this thing called TraceTogether(TT) which is either an App or Token (physical little keychain sized thingy) which we have to use to check in everywhere and when you leave the place, you have ti check out. TT makes use of Bluetooth technology to check how close each person is to another so if you happen to be in an area where someone was covid positive, there was a chance that you will have orders to do a swab test. Your location data is claimed to be saved up to 30 days. Before TT, we still had to check in everywhere but via scanning of a QR code which I still didn’t mind.

A lot of this is just theatre that we have everything under control and a lot of shops doesn’t really mind if I just walk in or at least I come up with ways to “game” the system. Also, it depends on how strictly the place enforce this. Restaurant, shopping centres: strict. Shops located outside shopping centres: not so strict.

Since around August, within the same Tracetogether App, Singaporeans are required to show whether they r vaccinated/ have a valid covid test when they want to eat in RESTAURANTS and are only allowed to eat in groups up to 5. Unvaccinated are only allowed do take outs or to eat at coffee shops/ hawker Centers where only up to 2 ppl are allowed to eat together. If you try to game the system in this aspect, you risk getting fined heftily or jailed. Also you have to be vaccinated to enter gyms(doesn’t affect me). From my own experience, I did a swab test for my own wedding (in the end I came to the venue too early for anyone to check me in).

So currently, ever since the discriminatory policies implemented all the while we have “opened up”, cases have been rising like crazy in Singapore. As expected due ADE. The G has pivoted their policies to be a “testing nation”. So literally testing has been ramped up like CRAZY. They even gave all of us plebs self test kits. It’s hilarious but also sad when I think about the amount of red tape uni or whatever students face.

There are more dumb policies, for eg reducing group eating sizes from 5 pax to 2 pax when cases rise; everyone complains but just do as they are told. It also depends on whether the establishment gives a fuck. Because the strictness of a place is also correlated to how many “Safe Distancing officers” there are roaming around and how they are able to find ways to go around the rule.

There are communities for vaccine mandate skeptics but they are always given bad press and they don’t even have to be given bad press for Singaporeans to try to hijack the group chats and argue with people, say how stupid anti vaxxers are. People on the news for not wearing masks - bashed like crazy. Like the mob mentality here is just, on another level. I used to be strongly against mandates but now ive learnt from my DGAF but vaccinated husband to not give af too. Also helps that we both WFH and I cook. Also, I am about to get China- vaxxed myself but it’s sorta for long term survival here (on planet earth) instead of just eating out.

Sorry, summary: shits crazy here in Singapore.
