A Ryzen SMU checker-heu hasonló Intel bios file felboncoló utility létezik? Gondolom nincs, különben már megtaláltam volna.

Egy HP bios fájlban akarnám megnézni, milyen cpu-hoz való mikrokódok vannak. Kideríteni, hogy csak xeon Nehalem EP (x55xx), vagy az újabb Westmere EP (x56xx) is elindul-e benne.

Azért ez sokkal egyszerűbb. Minden HP szerverhez elérhető a specifikáció, és az megadja, hogy melyik verzió mit tud, illetve a changelogot is eléred. Géptípustól függően nem csak BIOS, hanem valamilyen mélyebb fw updrade is szükséges volt, hogy menjen az újabb CPU.

igen, tudom mi az elmélet (changelog meg szapport doksi; nem kell hozza sok idő h. a HPE eltűntesse ezeknek az ősrégi gépeknek a nyomát is a szapport alól, akkor olvasgass changelog-ot). Én most a gyakorlatot szeretném megcsinálni.

BIOS-nál mélyebb firmware upgrade alatt mire gondolsz? ILO update?

Már nem emlékszem pontosan, de G8-as szervernél az E5-260xx CPU helyett ha E5-26xxv2-t akarsz, és első szériás a vas, akkor egy külön firmware CD-vel kellett bootolni, és úgy végigtolni egy "mély" update-et. Ez nem ILO, meg ilyesmi, hanem talán BIOS loader... és akkor ez amúgy felteszi az újabb BIOS-t is.

Őszintén szólva a G6/G7-es vonallal már nem vesződnék a helyedben, hacsak nem a konkrét vashoz kapcsolódóan, mint technikai érdekesség érdekel. Minden későbbi típusnál különféle megoldások lehetnek. Ráadásul ez nem kimondottan a HP-tól függ, hanem a CPU gyártótól is.

A G6/G7 vonalnál az rémlik, hogy az anno kurrens SPP -ről végigtoltuk a firmware és BIOS upgrade-et a CPU frissítés előtt.

Ilyen toolról nem tudok, ennek ellenére létezhet. Ami miatt írok: ha a lap foglalatilag támogatja, és a legújabb HP BIOS-szal próbálod, akkor nem látom be, hogy a Westmere miért ne menne benne.

Az az egy BIOS az mikori dátumú? Mert így elég necces, de ha jóval a Westmere-es proci után adták ki, akkor mégis lehet remény, hogy támogatja. Próbálj belenézni hex viewer-rel vagy hex editorral, hátha úgy felfedezel benne valamit, vagy csak utánaérdeklődni tudsz, hátha valaki használja pont ezt a szervert újabb procival, annak ellenére, hogy a kettő keresztmetszete konvergálni fog a 0-hoz. Elég gátlástalan a gyártóktól, hogy az ilyen észszerű upgrade-et ellehetetlenítik, mikor egyszerűen a mikrokód BIOS-ba integrálásával, és BIOS update kiadásával ezt meg lehetne oldani kulturáltan, nem túl nagy munkával. Gondolom ki akarják dobatni a régit, hogy vegyél újat.

Problems Fixed:

Addressed a processor issue under which a rare and complex sequence of internal processor microarchitecture events that occur in specific operating environments could cause a server system to experience unexpected page faults, general protection faults, or machine check exceptions or other unpredictable system behavior. While all processors supported by this server have this issue, to be affected by this issue the server must be operating in a virtualized environment, have Intel Hyperthreading enabled, have a hypervisor that enables Intel VT FlexPriority and Extended Page Tables, and have a guest OS utilizing 32-bit PAE Paging Mode. This issue is not unique to HP ProLiant servers and could impact any system utilizing affected processors operating with the conditions listed above. This revision of the System ROM contains an updated version of Intel's microcode that addresses this issue. Due to the potential severity of the issue addressed in this revision of the System ROM, this System ROM upgrade is considered a critical fix.

 

Addressed an issue with the Intel Xeon Processor X5675, Intel Xeon Processor X5690, and Intel Xeon Processor X5687 where a rare and complex combination of data and environmental conditions may result in some instructions not executing properly causing unpredictable system behavior. This issue is not unique to HP ProLiant servers and could impact any system using the affected processors listed above. This innovation analyzes multiple parameters of correctable memory error events and intelligently detects when the system is at an increased probability of non-recoverable memory conditions that would result in unplanned downtime or when correctable memory errors may degrade system performance. HP Advanced Memory Error Detection Technology will increase server uptime by accurately determining when a server administrator should schedule planned maintenance to replace DIMMs preventing unnecessary planned downtime and reducing the probability of unplanned downtime.

Resolved an issue that may result in any of the following conditions: operating system stops responding, unexpected system reset, Blue Screen when using a Microsoft Windows operating system, kernel panic when using a Linux operating system, or Purple Screen when using VMware ESX. A message may be displayed by the operating system or logged in the HP Integrated Management Log (IML) when this issue occurs indicating an "Uncorrectable Machine Check Exception." However, there are instances where the system resets before the operating system displays an error message and instances where the IML contains no log entry when this issue occurs. This issue does not occur if the Minimum Processor Idle State is configured for No C-states or C1E-state. The system is susceptible to this issue in the default Minimum Processor Idle State configuration.

Resolved an issue where PCI-Express Gen 3 option cards would run at PCI-Express Gen 1 speeds rather than the appropriate behavior of running at PCI-Express Gen 2 speeds. This server supports a maximum PCI-Express speed of Gen 2.

Resolved an issue where the system did not properly modify the processor’s power state (P-state) based on workload when the system is configured with Intel Xeon 5687 processors and the HP Power Regulator Mode is configured to OS Control Mode in the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). The processor would always run in its maximum power/performance state rather than modifying the power state based on the workload.

Resolved an issue where Online Spare (OLS) Advanced Memory Protection Mode does not function properly when a system contains six 32 GB DIMMs on any processor (two 32 GB DIMMs per channel for all 3 channels on the processor). When Online Spare Mode is enabled for a system with six 32 GB DIMMs on a processor, the system will NOT be protected by the spare memory and one channel of memory per processor in this configuration will not be available to the operating system. The system will indicate it is in Advanced ECC mode during system boot, but not all installed memory will be available to the operating system as would normally occur in Advanced ECC Mode. Customers configuring their system for Online Spare Mode with six 32 GB DIMMs per installed processor should update their System ROM. Note: Because 32 GB DIMMs are quad-rank, six 32 GB DIMMs per processor is the maximum supported.

 

Resolved a very rare issue where the system may either hang during system boot or boot with configuration options set incorrectly when non-volatile storage becomes corrupt. This is normally seen as the system hanging during system boot without anything displayed to video. Once the system gets into this state, the maintenance jumper can be utilized to recover operation of the system and restore configuration defaults. This revision of the System ROM will restore configuration defaults when non-volatile storage becomes corrupt.

 

Improved the logging of Smart Array Accelerator Battery and Smart Array Accelerator Super-Cap information in the Integrated Management Log (IML) to clearly indicate what actions a customer should take when the battery or super-cap is not installed, requires replacement, or is charging.

 

Resolved an issue where the iLO TEXTCONs feature would not function properly with the latest Linux kernels, including RHEL 6 and SLES 11 SP1. The issue is usually seen as TEXTCONs data no longer being received once the operating system has loaded.

 

Resolved an issue where the system may not be able to install an operating system to an iSCSI-based storage solution when using the local optical drive.

 

Resolved an issue where the system would not boot from iLO Virtual USB devices when configured with multiple local USB devices. This issue is usually seen as a failure to boot an iLO Virtual Medial USB key when 2 or more USB keys are installed locally in the server. iLO Virtual Devices will now always have priority over local USB devices.

 

Resolved an issue where the system may experience a Windows Blue Screen (BSOD), Linux kernel panic, VMware ESX Server Purple Screen of Death (PSoD), or unexpected reset when configured with an HP NC382T Network controller in PCI-E slot 6. In addition, this ROM update adds a new ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) Advanced option that allows the user to configure the PCI-Express speed for Slot 6 independently from other slots in the system. Users with devices installed in PCI-E slot 6 and are experiencing unexplained system resets or crashes should use this new option to limit the speed of PCI-E Slot 6 to Generation 1 to determine if this addresses the issue.

Users should update to this latest firmware revision for any systems running with the 10/15/2010 System ROM revisions. The 10/15/2010 System ROM revisions have a known issue which can result in uncorrectable memory errors and correctable memory threshold errors and should not be utilized. These errors are due to a firmware issue and not a result of a problem with the system hardware or installed DIMMs.

Added support to allow industry standard utilities to display the actual operating frequency of the installed memory. This is supporting a newly defined industry standard field. Utilities to display this information may not yet be available.

 

Added a new ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) Advanced Performance Tuning option known as QPI Bandwidth Optimization(RTID) to optimize link bandwidth settings for 2-Socket Intel Xeon 5600 series processors. These settings (also known as RTIDs) allow the user to balance bandwidth allocated between processors, memory, and I/O. While the balanced option (default) is recommended for the majority of customers, some benchmarks and workloads may show improved performance using different settings that allow optimization for memory streaming or I/O streaming. Customers that deploy I/O intensive applications such as seen with multiple GPUs, might see an improvement in GPU processing throughput when using the Optimized for I/O setting. This option is not available for systems utilizing Intel Xeon 5500-series processors.

Problems Fixed:

For servers using Intel Xeon processor 5600 series, resolve an issue where an Uncorrectable Memory Error or Exceeded Correctable Memory Error Threshold Event may occur. These errors may result in events logged to the Integrated Management Log (IML) and the System Health LED illuminating blinking amber. Additionally, if an Uncorrectable Memory Error occurs, the system will reset and error messages indicating the failure will be displayed during Power On Self Test (POST). These errors do not indicate a problem with the memory DIMMs or the server system board. This issue is not unique to HP ProLiant servers and is resolved by a new revision of Intel's microcode for Intel Xeon processor 5600 series that is implemented in this version of the System ROM. Intel Xeon processor 5500 series are not affected by this issue. Note: After completing the flash upgrade process for this revision of the System ROM, the server should be power cycled.

Added new Advanced Performance Options in the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) for DCU Prefetcher and Data Reuse. These options are only available when the system is using Intel 5600-series Xeon processors. These options are enabled by default (and are always enabled on previous revisions of the System ROM when using Intel 5600-series Xeon processors). While these options should remain enabled in most environments for optimum performance, in some high CPU-utilization environments disabling DCU Prefetcher and/or Data Reuse will improve overall performance. HP measurements indicate an ~8% performance increase with the SPECjbb2005 benchmark and ~4.6% performance increase with SAP when DCU Prefetcher and Data Reuse are disabled.

Added a new Turbo Boost Optimization option in the ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU). This option allows the user to choose between the traditional performance optimized behavior or a more power efficient behavior. This option is only valid when the Intel Turbo Boost Technology feature is enabled.

The following symptoms may be observed: System hang during boot with all DIMM LEDs illuminated (an Integrated Management Log (IML) entry indicating an "Uncorrectable Memory Error (module unknown)" or "Memory Configuration Error: System boot halted" may or may not be logged); Uncorrectable Memory Errors logged to the IML and "Uncorrectable memory error detected on Processor x DIMM y" message displayed during boot; Correctable Memory Error Threshold events logged to the IML; failure of some DIMMs to initialize resulting in the system booting with less memory available to the operating system than expected and a "207-Memory Initialization Error" message displayed during boot. For instances where these errors occur due to this System ROM issue, the errors do not indicate of a problem with the server hardware or the installed DIMMs. The System ROM should be upgraded to this revision or later before replacing hardware components due to these errors. This issue is more likely to result in memory instability with Intel Xeon 5600-series processors than Intel Xeon 5500-series processors and with processor and DIMM configurations that result in memory operating at 1333 MHz. HP requires customers update to this revision of the System ROM due to the potential impact of this issue.

Resolved an issue where a VT-d aware Operating System may experience a hang when the ROM Based Setup Utility (RBSU) option for VT-d is enabled (it is enabled by default). If using Intel VT-d support with the Xen hypervisor, the System ROM must be updated to this revision.

Resolved an issue where the system may experience a hang during the subsequent boot after changing the Processor Core Disable option in the ROM Based Setup Utility or via the SmartStart Scripting Toolkit. This issue is only seen if the system is warm reset via the iLO power management interface or from a CTRL-ALT-DEL instead of properly exiting the configuration utilities.

Resolved an issue where Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 would log erroneous warning messages into the system event log pertaining to the processor's frequency being limited by firmware in cases in which the frequency was not limited. This issue did not cause or indicate any actual performance degradation. The fix simply prevents the erroneous messages from being erroneously logged and does not change any behaviour of the processor, since there wasn't actually any performance capping being performed.

Resolved an issue where Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 would log erroneous warning messages into the system event log pertaining to the processor's frequency being limited by firmware. The system firmware was incorrectly identifying slowness in frequency due to normal idle power state transitions as throttling due to power capping, even if power capping was not enabled or active. This fix simply prevents the warnings from being erroneously logged and does not change any behaviour of the processor, since there wasn't actually any performance capping being performed.

Resolved an issue which results in a lockup during boot on every warm reset after disabling the embedded Smart Array P410i Controller through the ROM-Based Setup utility via the PCI Device Enable/Disable menu. After disabling the embedded Smart Array P410i Controller, the system will halt during boot prior to any screen display with the internal health LED in the blinking Red state on every warm reset.

Resolved an issue where fan failures for fan 3 and 4 would not be reported correctly if the optional third fan is installed in a single processor configuration with the non-redundant fan kit.

Resolved an issue where an Uncorrectable Memory Error is inaccurately reported in the Integrated Management Log (IML) when a DIMM fails to properly initialize during system boot. The inaccurate message states "207-Uncorrectable Memory Error detected by ROM-based memory validation (Memory Module X)" where X indicates an incorrect DIMM number. The IML will now report "207-Memory initialization error on Processor X DIMM Y. The operating system may not have access to all of the memory installed in the system." where X indicates the processor number and Y indicates the DIMM number for the DIMM that failed to initialize properly.

Resolved an issue where the system would fail to boot certain USB Drive Keys or SD Cards. This issue was seen when USB Drive Keys or SD Cards configured with a boot loader such as GRUB. This issue only effects USB based devices and has no impact on installations to other mass storage devices.

Resolved an issue which could result in the power supply state being reported as "warning" for a non-installed power supply by some industry standard utilities that read power supply information from the industry standard SMBIOS tables. This issue results in no functional issue for the system. The status was simply indicated incorrectly.

Resolved an issue where the ambient temperature is not displayed properly during system boot if the ambient temperature is below 0 Degrees Celsius. This issue only affects the display of the temperature on the screen during boot and does not affect operation of the system.

Resolved an issue where fan numbers were reported incorrectly for fans that are not installed. Fan numbers for failed fans were always reported correctly.

Added support for Collaborative Power Control. This feature, when using an operating system that supports this functionality (such as Windows Server 2008 Release 2), provides improved power management when HP Power Regulator is configured for HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode by allowing the operating system and platform firmware to work together to provide optimum control of processor frequency for improved power efficiency. This functionality has no impact on system operation if using an operating system that does not support this feature or if HP Power Regulator is not configured for HP Dynamic Power Savings Mode. The Collaborative Power Control selection in the Advanced Power Management Options of the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) provides the capability to disable this feature. Only operating systems that support the PCC interface allow for Collaborative Power Control. At the time of release of this firmware, Windows Server 2008 Release 2 is the only operating system that supports the PCC interface.

Added support to allow an operating system to read power usage and the configured power cap value (configured power cap value available only when using HP Dynamic Power Capping). This functionality requires HP integrated Lights-Out 2 Firmware revision 1.79 or later. This functionality is only available when using an operating system that supports the ACPI Power Meter Device defined in the ACPI 4.0 specification. At the time of release of this firmware, Windows Server 2008 Release 2 is the only operating system that supports this functionality.

Added support to allow some industry standard utilities to display power supply information such as the power supply wattage and part number.

Resolved an issue where the iLO 2 Power Graphs may show excessive power peaks over the configured cap value when Dynamic Power Capping is enabled. Note that it is normal for some power peaks over the configured cap to occur which are within specification for HP Dynamic Power Capping and which do not affect circuit breaker protection. This revision of the System ROM does not affect these expected occurrences.

Increased the amount of space available to load and execute option ROMs. In some cases, this may allow the option ROM of a device to be executed in instances where this was previously not possible.

Modified the system manufacturer name, as stored in the industry standard SMBIOS tables, from "Hewlett-Packard" to "HP". While this will result in industry standard software referring to the platform as an "HP ProLiant" instead of a "Hewlett-Packard ProLiant", the most important aspect of this change is that it may affect customer scripts which looked for a manufacturer name of "Hewlett-Packard". In such cases, the customer's script will need to be updated. This change will result in the manufacturer name being consistent with previous generations of HP ProLiant servers which have always used "HP". Some customers were adversely affected when transitioning to G6 ProLiant servers because their scripts did not work because the manufacturer name had been changed to "Hewlett-Packard".

Resolved an issue where error messages from HP Smart Array controllers would be logged to the Integrated Management Log (IML) on every server boot, even after the error was resolved. This issue was documented as fixed in a previous revision of the System ROM, but the original fix did not fully address the issue.

Resolved an issue which could result in a system hang when installing the 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 SP2 when the optional HP Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is installed and enabled in the system. This issue does not affect system operation if the system does not have the optional HP Trusted Platform Module installed or enabled.

Added support for PCI-X and PCI Express option cards that request large amounts of non-prefetchable PCI memory (up to 1GB). While these option cards are extremely rare, they will now function properly.

In these cases, the issue does NOT indicate an actual DIMM issue. This error is most likely to occur when the server's thermal environment changes between when the system boots and normal operation. Upgrading to this revision of the System ROM will resolve these issues.

Added support for the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) option for Dynamic Power Savings Mode Response under the Power Management Options menu. This tuning option allows the user to optimize the Power Regulator - Dynamic Power Savings Mode functionality based on the system's workload for improved power efficiency.

Added support for the Power Supply High Efficiency Mode feature which is configured in the Power Management Options in the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). This feature allows configuring how the system will handle redundant power supply configurations. High Efficiency Mode will provide the most power efficient operation with redundant power supplies by keeping one power supply in standby mode at lower power usage levels. Balanced Load will share the power delivery equally between both installed power supplies. This functionality requires the server to be upgraded to iLO 2 Firmware revision 1.77 or later.

Added the "Memory Speed with 3 DIMMs per Channel" option in the Advanced Performance Tuning Options of the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) to allow configuring the system to run DIMMs at 1333 MHz when up to two DDR3 DIMMs are installed on a memory channel (if all other requirements for 1333 MHz operation are met). This provides a performance increase with most workloads. By default, the system will operate a maximum of 1066 MHz when two DIMMs are installed on any memory channel. HP has validated this functionality with all HP DIMMs. It is recommend this setting remain at the default of 1066 MHz if non-HP DIMMs are installed in the system.

Added support in the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU) for the 1066 MHz selection for the Maximum Memory Bus Frequency option under the Power Management Options menu. With some workloads, a memory speed of 1066 MHz is more power efficient than 1333 MHz.

Added the Node Interleaving option in the Advanced Performance Tuning Options of the ROM-Based Setup Utility (RBSU). Enabling Node Interleaving disables the NUMA architecture properties of the system. All operating systems supported by this platform support NUMA architectures. In the majority of cases, optimum performance is obtained by disabling Node Interleaving. When this option is enabled, memory addresses will be interleaved across the memory installed for each processor. Some workloads may see improved performance when this option is enabled.

Ha tényleg nincs hozzá újabb BIOS, akkor sanszos, hogy ezt buktad. Ha mondjuk lenne hozzá egy 2012-2014-es update, azzal neki lehetne menni, de így nem sok értelmét látom. Amit még tudsz csinálni, bár ez nagyon vad ötlet, hogy hátha valami 3rd party, orosz hekkelt BIOS-t találsz hozzá, ha más nem, valami BIOS-szerkesztővel mész neki, és adod hozzá a mikrokódot, de még ilyenkor se lesz garantált, hogy működni fog.

A helyzet az, hogy az 56xx Xeon széria az G7-es. A DL360 és DL380 G7-ek nagyon a G6-osokra épülnek, chipset és társai szinten, de azért vannak belsőségbeli változások, pl. a G7-ek jobban szerelhetőek egy fokkal. Ha ML150-ből volt G7, annak kéne utána nézned.

Mivel ML150 széria, az egy belépő szintű történet, egyáltalán nem biztos, hogy a DL3xx széria szintű támogatást rászántak HP-ék. Ha jól látom ML szériából 110-es lett, és abból G7. Mivel az 55xx Xeonokra volt tervezve az amúgy is belépő szerver, ezt valszin el kell engedni.

Igen, az ML350 a dualsocket állóházas rokona a DL360/380-nak, szintén egy erősebb enterprise felütéssel, van hogy csak 300-as szériaként hivatkoznak rá. Ha jól sejtem, akkor ezek annyira rokonok, hogy a DL360/380-as tápok egyben ML350 tápok is, szóval más volt a tervezési, és támogatási koncepció. (Sőt halkan jelzem, hogy ezek a 460/800/1200W-os tápok mentek tovább a 300-as G8-as szériába, bár ott fw verziók és társaik lehetnek mások.)

Hiába van ott a technikai lehetőség, ha az ML150-nel nem foglalkozott így a HP, akkor nem pakolták be a CPU támogatást. Akkor sem, hogy ha "csak 5 perc" lett volna megoldaniuk, mert úgy látták, hogy a vevőkör nem igényli és ennyi. Cserébe jött az ML110-es nevű G7-es, és az már bizony a 12xx Xeonból van.
