Coming soon: superfast internet (CERN Grid)

THE internet could soon be made obsolete. The scientists who pioneered it have now built a lightning-fast replacement capable of downloading entire feature films within seconds.

At speeds about 10,000 times faster than a typical broadband connection, “the grid” will be able to send the entire Rolling Stones back catalogue from Britain to Japan in less than two seconds.

Intel to release anti-theft technology in Q4

Intel’s upcoming anti-theft technology will be released later this year and will be called “Intel Anti-Theft Technology”. Clever, no? There aren’t a whole lot of details beyond the mind-blowing name except that, according to a recent presentation (PDF) by Dadi Perlmutter, VP of Intel’s mobility group, it’ll “basically lock the system, lock the disk, so people cannot be maliciously using and getting the data.”

It appears that the technology allows the computer to be locked down once it’s been stolen, so it seems that it may be locked once it’s found a wireless signal or some other way to connect to the internet. Either that or maybe it needs to “check in” once in awhile or maybe it doesn’t work outside of a certain range of acceptable usage zones. Intel will release more details as we get closer to the fourth quarter.

Huhh ez meleg MotionPortrait

We’ve heard of MotionPortrait before, that software that animates still photos, turning them into moving, smiling and talking 3D models. But we haven’t seen an example of it used like this, where a nearly lifelike model is animated in Flash and follows your cursor around the screen like it’s a fly on the wall. We're not sure why her eyes are so red — gal, get yourself more sleep! Maybe she's been up all night following cursors.

Follow the link below, and prepare to be impressed.

Nem Edison csinálta az első hangfelvételt

For more than a century, since he captured the spoken words "Mary had a little lamb" on a sheet of tinfoil, Thomas Edison has been considered the father of recorded sound. But researchers say they have unearthed a recording of the human voice, made by a little-known Frenchman, that predates Edison's invention of the phonograph by nearly two decades.

"Could I have some artwork with that cappuccino?" Not exactly something you hear at Starbucks a lot, but if this coffee-printer technology goes mainstream, who knows? Wait, a coffee printer? Yep, Oleskiy Pikalo woke up one day with a hankerin' for some fancy designs on his latte, so he bought a used Philips 8155 x-y flatbed plotter and modified it to shoot out edible ink. The result is a machine that can draw surprisingly detailed art on your cup of joe

Nokia Morph Concept (unokáink talán látni fogják)

Morph is a flexible two-piece device that can adapt its shape to different use modes. Nanotechnology enables to have adaptive materials yet rigid forms on demand.
It is also featured in the MoMA online exhibition "Design and the Elastic Mind". It has been a collaboration project of Nokia Research Center and Cambridge Nanoscience Center.

Pentagon's Mind-Reading Computers Replicate

Augmented Cognition relies on the idea that people have more than one kind of working memory, and more than one kind of attention; there are separate slots in the mind for things written, things heard and things seen. By monitoring how taxed those areas of the brain are, it should be possible to change a computer's display to compensate.
